More important that achieving PCI compliance is implementing real data security processes and products. We know that telling small retailers about simple process and systems changes at their stores can greatly mitigate breach risk; and effectively reduce exposure/cost to PCI. Moreover, there are new “risk based” approaches emerging from PCI that do not require the retailer to take the “all or none” approach to security.
